It's possible I wasn't phrasing my questions correctly? I learned to just sit quietly while picturing the object I want to locate in my mind and wait until I 'feel' where I should look. Sometimes three or four places come to mind, but it has always worked for me.
Horses for courses as they say. Most people have an innate preference between rods and pendulums. There was a fella from the American Dowsers who said that to find lost objects he recommended tossing a coin over one's shoulder and letting the rods take him to it was good practice.
The phrasing of questions correctly is probably the most difficult part of it all. That takes a lot of work, and success depends on this. The simpler the queries the better. In medical dowsing, the British Radionic people at Delawarr Laboratories in England had worksheets for their practitioners. For example, on one sheet they would have the title Vitamin Deficiencies under which there would be a simple list of vitamins. Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and so on. Just that, with one very important addition. That addition was the word Other. Every diagnostic list always had the word 'Other' as the last entry. It did not matter what the list was, it was always 'Other' as the last item on the list.
So in practice, if there was no response for an individual vitamin deficiency, there would probably be a response for 'Other'. Which means we have to dig deeper. That is where knowledge and lots of study comes in.

There have been times when I get nothing; then I just go about my day but the lost object gnaws at me even though I've made it a non-issue, and while I'm preoccupied doind something the answer just pops up.
I'm a crafter of many different genres, so locating that one special item needed while the 'spirit moves me' can be an all-consumin force at times!
I'm not good at finding things either, and do what you do : )
