Neuroplasticity probably has something to do with it. As we've discussed elsewhere there are some people that seem naturally inclined to anomalous experiences. These psychoactive compounds seem to cause increases in neuroplasticity, which in turn can open up new or atrophied perceptual pathways. You can also just trip balls and hallucinate too, so like dreaming or altered states there's the issue of what is real. Not to mention the question of what "real" even is beyond whatever it is we perceive.

I didn't think of it until just now, but I wonder if they've done any experiments using the improvement in neuroplasticity from these compounds to help people with brain damage to learn how to do things again. The brain is highly adaptable so rerouting tasks is possible, but often takes people a long time and a lot of work. I wonder if they've tried it.

I seem to recall that trauma, causing things like PTSD and severe depression, can result in atrophy or decreased brain function in certain places. That same neuroplasticity may be what allows them to overcome. It's easy to dismiss it when it's framed as a spiritual journey that solves the problem, but that could be just a common side-effect that helps lay these new pathways to circumvent problem spots in the brain. I think the journey doesn't hurt and the awakening is helpful to cement it as well.

It seems they may be doing studies, but my guess is nothing will come of it until they've found a way to synthesize the compounds to ensure a slower recovery and greater monietization for the medical complex.

The ACA seemed to put the medical industry at the top of the financial heap. The entire medical industry is the monster in everybody's closet and the boogeyman under our beds.
