I think the threat of legal repercussions is ironic, but all too common when people that engage in really dumb Internet fuckery end up as the target of it. The police didn't care about their violations of law over Internet drama, it's unlikely they'll be coming to investigate the non-crime of posting publicly available information that is public for the explicit purpose it was used. That which wasn't part of public disclosure under existing legal frameworks appears to have been things he shared publicly to influence perceptions about him. I have observed many times when Internet drama spilled over into the real world and it is exceedingly rare that an idiot that has to get the police involved over drama ends up coming out the winner in the real world exchange. Let's be honest... people that are even just breaking even in the real world don't fuck up their lives over these kinds of things on the Internet. They certainly aren't "winning" much of anything.

I did say that there is often somebody willing to burn down their life rather than simply cutting their -mounting- personal losses and walking away, but maybe this will follow a very reasonable and adult course through to the DI community once again having functional control of the site. The value of the site is virtually nothing except to, and because of, the people that contribute without expectation of compensation or social benefits.

People that think they deserve things for being a good citizen within their community are typically not the best leaders and often aren't even great people once you start poking around under the hood. It may start as humble acceptance, but it becomes what they believe is owed to them. The worst people take the worst turns toward entitlement, as they take the worst turns toward exploiting power. Lets see how much he thinks holding a donated domain, maintained by more donations, along with doing clerical work with some arts & crafts design, should cost "the community" to reclaim. Somebody was given the domain once, for the purpose of making a home for the community, and then it turned into a possession to covet. I hope the new management returns some balance.

I will be convinced that things will go well and that people will do the right things immediately after I see evidence of it having happened. All credit goes to people that do the right thing, even when it's a little late.

They will still not be attaching the archive to an opaque commercial enterprise. Open the books and purge the ban list... or call it a business and abandon all hopes of stealing my shit and the contributions of thousands of others with no voice. You steal from corporations all you want, but you don't steal from your own community and call it charity. The wise thing to do is accept that forums are all but buried, be frugal rather than load the site with donation links to fuel delusions of grandeur, and survive as long as you can. The moronic belief that a small community would be footing a $300-400 a month bill to host mostly text and a stolen archive was doomed to fail disastrously. The site should cost almost nothing to run for somebody that isn't looking to build an empire.

Long live DI. I hope they can sort things out.

Wow, that statement he made proves he is paying attention to our conversations outside of DI. That's extra creepy sauce there.

Venues for people like us are always shifting. Many times it starts in a small space like a room at someone's house, eventually it grows and moves into an old storefront in a seedy neighborhood, then it gets bigger and moves into a larger space like a vacant warehouse. By this point, it is ready to "go big", but it needs sponsors and proper business management to keep going forward.

Another thing is, organic groups that form and evolve like this usually have a council making decisions that are voted on by the entire group. Everyone should be aware of and informed about the situation. There should be complete transparency, or at least enough transparency to function.

this wasn't a 'consensual' classroom thing between two minors, it was something much more nefarious according to the charge and conviction.

This guy is a convicted sex offender, and he lies about the case to seem innocent of the charges. He makes these statements public on "his" forum in an attempt to appear to be the victim. He even claims these charges were dropped over the years.

However, felonies will follow you and prevent you from hanging out with other felons, owning a firearm, and voting in elections. You may have paid for doing the crime, but it's on your permanent record now and in this case, a public record.

It would require a huge effort on his part to prove anything else and esp. that he has since been rehabilitated and redeemed. From what I've seen of his current actions and statements, his character could be even worse now.
