Latest Post on Home Page

#1
The 'Latest Post" column on the left side of the home page shows the post name, and the 'last post' and then there's a hyperlink.

The hyperlink goes to the last poster's profile, instead of any way to get to the actual last post of a thread.  To get there, you have to click on the link to the thread, and then scroll down.

I'd recommend changing something there so there's at least a link to the actual 'last post'.

Thx

P.S. I'd also recommend changing the "Forums" link at the top of the page to "Home". This is just a minor text change. Reason - Because the home page is more than just a list of available forums.

There should be two options for clicking the hyperlink. Click the posters name to get the profile and click the title to get the thread.

The thread link goes to the start of the thread though rather than the last post. I think that should probably change if it's possible.

That's basically what I meant to say, but didn't say it clearly enough.  It's fine to have a link to the poster's profile there (also), but there should be a link to jump to the bottom of whatever page shows up in that column, "Latest Posts'.

Thanks.

Yes, that irks me too. I'll look into the code to see if I can change that to make it go to the 'last post'. It is annoying, agreed.

Concerning the 'Forums' link, that does link to the 'Forums', but if you click on the CypherAge logo on the left of the menu, it will lead you to the 'Portal' page which is actually the 'Home' page.

I'll look into the 'Last Post' issue as soon as I get a chance, it's on the list, lol ..

I wasn't sure how you could miss it, but I know different modes and different browsers display things differently. Some of the menus here are almost invisible to me in dark mode, though I use a blue light filter and keep my screen brightness low.

I don't even think the link to the posters profile is useful. I think the only time I've used it was accidentally. I'd be fine with the whole text box just redirecting to the last post.

The way it is now it makes more sense just to land on Today's topics so that you can at least go to the last page of the thread.

Personally, I liked 'Recent Threads', it was only replaced because of a few users issues.

The intent of 'Latest Posts' was a work around for that, so you guys could see what threads were responded to the most recently. Yes, it requires ONE extra click .. LOL...oh the humanity!!!

As far as the visibility of the menus, I wasn't aware that was an issue, everything looks good on the monitors I use. I'll put that on my list as well ..

Today's topics pretty much fits my needs as a replacement, but I check in multiple times in any given 24 hours to check on spam. The only real difference from the old recents seems to be that they drop off after the 24 hour window, which could be an issue for people not browsing frequently I guess. The recent list on the main page works for that purpose though, for those that only browse once in a while.

I never mentioned the control panel menu because it's easily corrected in my settings and I use that menu rarely. I consider it a user problem, not a site problem. I also figured that dark mode was just like that sometimes as it's not just this site that I've had an issue with it. I think it would be impossible to set things up so that it's ideal for every user's personal set-up, so I wouldn't waste time on that unless a bunch of other people have the problem too.

I'll continue with improvements as I get time, I think I can fix those issues (even the issues that don't necessarily require fixing). It requires a bit of custom coding which I enjoy, so it isn't a problem to address as I get time.

I find the 'latest posts' that don't go to the latest post annoying as fuck...so that will definitely get fixed soon, LOL

Somewhere out there, is the person that wrote the original code for "latest posts" that doesn't go to the latest post. They're out there walking among us, wearing their skin like a suit, and nobody knows what they really are.

It's scary to think of how many deranged psychopaths are out there, just writing shit code and not caring whose lives they destroy in the process.

Mike,

Also know, my suggestions are never criticisms, just observations I make while tooling around
